Songwriting is complex. Don't let this stop you.

Let's face it: Songwriting is complex. To write a modern song, you will need to deal with this:

• Arrangement
• Sound choice
• Writing chord progressions
• Writing melodies
• Drums and percussion
• Mixing
• Mastering
• Lyrics
• Recording
• Playing instruments

It is one BIG project. It is complex. And it is beautiful! It is an eclectic art form with sooo many influences and aspects.

Sometimes, I read stuff like this:

• "When you use samples, you are not a musician"
• "When you don't play an instrument, you are not a musician"
• "When you use songwriting tools, you are not a musician"

I think that's just plain wrong. You don't need to be an expert in all these aspects to be "real".
Where does "realness" even start? When you build your instruments from scratch? When you code your own DAW?

You are a conductor. You create a big puzzle out of hundred different pieces to bring a song into life. And when you use tools to handle one aspect quicker and/or better, you can simply spend your time on other aspects.

I created Sundog, ChordPotion, and MelodicFlow with this philosophy in mind. You can use these tools to better reach your songwriting goals. But in the end, they won't free you from putting the puzzle together yourself.
