Now that I gave HouseEngine a spin I am pleasantly surprised that all midi generated provide viable pathways from and to your original chord sequence (erm, even if that chord sequence wasn't even your own...). I guess a secret within a secret is not to use the HouseEngine for (just) House music and strongly explore the "Suggested scales" option in order to come up with intricate call and answer parts and interesting variations.
